For 25 years, Lewisham-based arts group Other World Arts has been working in schools, libraries and other community settings as well as festivals and carnivals around the world. Help them raise awareness of single-use plastic by recycling and reusing materials to create a pop-up garden under their beautiful canopy at People’s Day.

We can be heroes

Discover lots of reasons to celebrate historic, fictional and everyday heroes with Lewisham Libraries. You’ll be able to dress as a hero and perform heroic missions, nominate a hero you know and find out about heroes from the past. Celebrate local champions, draw your own hero at Emily’s comic book workshop, or just be a hero by joining the library.

Fabric of the community

Communities of textile makers have existed in Lewisham for centuries. Nineteenth century Dorcas societies provided spaces for women to meet, make textiles, exchange skills and support the community. In the twentieth century, Caribbean migrant women successfully continued these traditions in their ‘front room’ spaces.

Made in Lewisham presents Rose Sinclair’s Front Room Stories, where you can learn how to weave your own piece of cloth and share your own textile story as we make a communal garment in our own front-room inspired space.

Pizza for the people

Following on from the success of last years ‘pasta for the people’ pop-up training kitchen, Lewisham’s school meal provider Chartwells is excited to be returning to People’s Day to help you make healthy wood-fired pizzas. As part of Lewisham’s Sugar Smart campaign against childhood obesity, Chartwells will be highlighting some of the hidden sugars in supermarket products, and showing you how to make healthy homemade versions.
